For this primary research, i borrowed part of a wooden skull from the fine art department, and got some really great shots, what will help towards my research.

Sugar Skulls
![]() |
| I drew this skull using pencil and fine liner. I found the image on weheartit.com, and is my favourite sugar skull image that I have found. |

| Once I had drawn up the skull, I had it put on to Magic Touch paper and heat pressed on to calico. I went on to hand stitch embroid using cotton threads. |
My Very Own Sugar Skull
I went on to paint one of the skulls in the style of a sugar skull from the Mexican Day of the Dead. This was to support my research into The Day of the Dead, and I really liked the way it looked once id finished.
Clay Time!
I decided I wanted to try something different in my FMP, to add a little diversity to the textiles element. I made these two clay skulls in the ceramic workshop early on in project. They took about an 1hr 30mins to make, and I was really pleased with the final outcome.

Beauty of the End
I miss you when the morning's been up all night
Delicately whisper I'll be alright
Maybe someone else will bring a passion out of you
That I never saw, I am torn apart
I miss you in the moments when it all stops
Listen to the silence that hurts my heart
Maybe someday we will meet again and I'll turn back
Now our love turns to black
So I write this letter that I'll never send
Just so I remember the beauty of the end
And I write this letter to my long lost friend
So it stays with me forever, the beauty of the end
Falling never hurts, the landing does
I miss you when I'm laughing, you're very near
But then I open up my eyes, and you're not here
Maybe one day you will understand that I had to
I did it all for you
So I write this letter that I'll never send
Just so I remember the beauty of the end
And I write this letter to my long lost friend
So it stays with me forever, the beauty of the end
Falling never hurts, the landing does
And I'm just as scared as you are about this freedom
But I need to run with the wind
And I know right now you think there is no reason
But you'll see, please trust me, nothing in life is easy
So I write this letter that I'll never send
So I write this letter that I'll never send
Just so I remember the beauty of the end
And I write this letter to my long lost friend
So it stays with me forever, the beauty of the end
Falling never hurts
Falling never hurts
Falling never hurts, the landing does
Lyrics to 'Beauty of the End' by Paloma Faith
Initial Ideas
My initial idea came to me after listening to the Paloma Faith song, 'Beauty of the End'. This got me thinking about possibly focusing my project around death, and rather than looking at it from a depressing and morbid point of view, to look at it from a more positive view. I made the link to the Day of the Dead, where the lives of the Dead are celebrated through shrines and parades and festivals.
Final Major Project!
So we started out FMP a week after our Live Brief project. We were asked to come up with ideas, inspirations and thoughts on a possible project. For our FMP, we would be writing our own brief, so this had to be something which really interested us and would hold our interest throughout the duration of the project.
